Faf called up for ODI series in India

Faf du Plessis has been called up in the South African squad for the three-match ODI series in India. South Africa have announced their 15-man squad for the same and George Linde is all set for his ODI debut.

Squad details

Cricket South Africa has named the 15-match squad for the upcoming ODI series in India scheudld to begin from March 12. The two rested players Faf du Plessis and Rassie van der Dussen have been recalled in the squad led by Quinton de Kock. George Linde who debuted in test against India last October has been included to the squad as well and in all likelihood, make his limited-overs debut in this series. Linde has been named in place of Tabraiz Shamsi, who will not make the trip because of his wife’s pregnancy.

Heinrich Klaasen and Kyle Verreynne were impressive against Australians in place of two rested batsmen. Both have been retained for the India tour, along with Keshav Maharaj and Lutho Sipamla.

CSA selector speaks

Cricket South Africa’s independent selector has said that the healthy competition to fill in the spots in exciting. "It is exciting to see the amount of competition for spots that we have within the team and in the franchises, it's a good headache for us as selectors to have."

Zondi further has hoped that the India tour would be a challenging one for the team. The combination of young and experienced players is expected to deliver good show according to Zondi. "We are satisfied with our picks for what will certainly be a challenging tour of India. We saw some promising performances last year from the T20 squad that travelled there and we wanted to give a player like George Linde another crack at the conditions which seemed to really suit him. We are also particularly pleased with the balance of youth and experience that we have achieved while our young leadership group continues to establish itself. We are looking forward to some good performances in this relatively short tour."
